I've been on this Taylor Swift kick for 3 months (how long should a kick be?) and decided in the mist of my dramtic writings (No Take Backs and Need You Now) I would do a light hearted fun love story.

Rating: R/NC-17 (yes, I can spin Swifty songs to be R-rated)

I’m Taryn. I moved to London when I was 15 because my mom’s job transferred us out here and my dad didn’t care for his job in the states so he jumped on board with my mom to move. I’ve been insecure about being the only black girl in my family because I’m adopted, and had to explain to everyone why I was a black girl with two white parents. I love them though, because despite anything, I’ve learned to be racially ambiguous when it comes to people I meet. I think that lesson would be hard to learn without being adopted. I have a little sister named Terra, biological to my mom and dad, who’s seven, annoying, nosy and the best little sis I could ask for. My mom works for the US government and policy diplomats (or something… I don’t ask in detail. She could work for the CIA for all I know) and my dad does teaches computer programming classes at London University.

I’m a huge book geek, music lover, writer, dreamer, and an exceptional chef. I prefer the sounds of the Beatles, Queen, The Clash, Jimi Hendrix, Run DMC and Jay Z over the Saturdays, Sugarbabes or whoever else is out right now. I still have a collection of my dad’s records in my room and I use an actual old school record player.

I also have a friend, one of my best, named Rob. Oh Rob, too cool for his own good I tell him. He understands my taste for music, the fact that I’m a book nerd, why I prefer to spend Saturday nights being lame and making deserts instead of going to high school parties, getting wasted and being the topic of next week’s gossip.

I understand his persona of wanting to be a bad boy when he’s a softy inside (I saw him cry during Lion King when Mufasa died. He says he got a sudden allergy. Allergy my ass). I knew about his insecurities with the girls he dated. I gave him advice about how to save his relationships when the girl freaked out on him because of me stating, ‘you two are too close’. We always did a gift swap for holidays, birthdays and just because.

Yes, Rob is my best friend.

And I’m in love with him.

Chapter 1

Taryn POV

School. Lovely, my favorite place in the world to be. I was in my God forsaken uniform during lunch, sitting in the corner reading Brave New World for what seemed to be the thousandth time to read this. I didn’t socialize a lot mainly because I was quiet, not a brat and insecure, not because I was better than everyone else.

I heard the conversation in the room, mainly about what happened over the weekend.

Oh Mondays, I get to catch up on what Jessie did with Bryan after she snorted coke. Blah blah blah…

Can I go to culinary school now?

“Hang in there, you have six months until you become Britain’s best chef.”

I saw Rob out the corner of my eye as he sat at the table next to me, carrying his tray full of questionable edible glop.

“What the hell are you eating?” I asked continuing to read.
“A surprise. Try some,” he had a spoonful moving it toward me.
“No thank you. I’d like to live past 20.”
“What are you reading?” he asked with his mouth full.

Not replying I held the book more in his view.

“Again?”
“Yes. It’s my favorite book of all time,”
“Do you think though the government can actually do that? Control people with sex and drugs and what not?”
“Possibly. I’m not buying into the book really. I just like it. It’s almost as good as 1984.”
“Didn’t he get the idea from that book?”
“Yep. So how was your weekend?”
“Fine. Chrissy and I got into a fight again,”
“What else is new? What’s it about this time?”
“I’m not paying attention to her. I never do anything right. Why the hell is she with me?”
“Because Rob, despite you being an adolescent boy, you’re a good guy. You’re not like these jerks walking around here acting like they’re big stuff. She knows that, she’s just being a girl. She could be on her period…unless she’s pregnant.”
“Shhhhhhh! Geez could you be louder?”

Looking over my book I stared at him.

“Robert Thomas Pattinson, did you knock up Chrissy Taylor and now you’ll be forced to drop out of school and get a job?”
“NO! I’m just saying…rumors start easily around here. You can’t just stay stuff like that. What did you do Saturday?”
“My mom took me shopping. I hardly enjoyed it. Oh, I found a new chocolate cake recipe if you’re interested,”
“Of course. Eating is my favorite.”

By the looks of him, you’d think it was a joke, but it’s not. This kid has the fastest metabolism of all the Eastern world.

“I’m making it tonight after dinner,”
“You know, I’m glad you like to look up recipes, read, listen to music, whatever, but I propose you live your life like a normal senior and go to a party.”
“Or, I can avoid being gossip and stay home.”
“But that’s not fun.”
“Who says? Besides, girls hate me.”
“They’re jealous,”

I rolled my eyes at his comment.

“Right. Well, I’m heading out. See you tonight?”
“Yep. Later T.”

I saw Chrissy coming with her group of giggly friends and wanted to avoid drama. I didn’t want to sit there as she got mad about the sun not shining out of her ass. Instead, I went to the garden and finished up my chapter before class resumed.

Chrissy was the opposite of me. She was very girly, always up with Britain latest fashions. She drove a Mercedes to school, her blonde curly shoulder length hair, blue eyes and make-up always flawless. If we were in the states, she would definitely blend in with the popular kids and possibly be a cheerleader. Her best friend Natalie was the same except she had brown hair and she actually was a model, dating the captain of the rugby team.

I don’t know what Rob saw in Chrissy or what Chrissy saw in Rob. Don’t get me wrong, he’s amazing but they’re SO different than her past boyfriends. I feel like she’s up to something with him, but I’m going to keep my mouth close.

School went by a lot faster than I anticipated, and I drove home in my 65 mustang my mom and dad bought as a way to say “good job on adjusting to London so easily and not giving us problems/you’ll need to take your sister everywhere” bribe. An expensive bribe, but I went with it anyway.

After picking up my sister, we went home to do homework. In the middle of studying I heard something hit my window.

Looking up, I see Rob standing at his window.

Oh, not only is Rob my best friend, he’s my neighbor. Yep.

Walking to the window I opened it to talk to him.

“Hey…”
“Hey…” he sounded a bit down.
“What’s wrong?”
“Chrissy,” he looked shrugging
“Fighting?”
“I made a joke about not going to the senior dance and she freaked on me, saying we were already on the court and stuff and we had to go.”
“Really? That conversation happened?”
(laughs) “Yeah. Well, I’m going, dressed in a nice tux she’s picking out for me.”
“Cute, picking out your clothes and stuff.”
“Kill me,”

Just then I heard his mom in his room.

“Tay! How are you?”
“Good Mrs. Pattinson how are you?”
“Well. When are coming into my agency so I can ship out your headshots,”

For some reason she had this idea I should be a model. She insisted even though I was 5’4 and not 100 lbs.

“I’ll let you think it over. Just let me know when you’re ready,”
“Yes ma’am,” I replied as she left the room.
“Clean your room Robbie,” I heard her say.
“Clean your room Robbie,” I mocked as he gave me the finger.
“Anyway, I’m going to start dinner, come over later.”
“Will do. I want cake!”
“Of course you do. Bye!”
“Bye!”
