1. How did you get into fan fiction? Why Robert Pattinson fan fiction?
When I was about Eighteen, I started reading Fan fiction on a boy band website and being the typical teen, I was a total sucker for the Romance story. I found two Authors whose stories really drew me in and kept me wanting more. ( I am still friends with these girls today, nine years on, even though they have stopped writing.). After reading a few completed stories, I started forming my own ideas for my own story. The story was called Torn and I still hold it close to my heart, I was writing it for two years. When I was about twenty two, I stopped writing my own stuff and posting it online. When I came across RPF about eight months ago, I was intrigued by the range of stories, and was already a massive Robert fan. After a couple of weeks of lurking on the site, I got inspired to write my own story once again, wanting to write my own interpretation of Rob. Even Angels Fall, was born.
2. What made you decide to start writing fan fiction?
Well I am always reading, I have been since I was about five years old. As a young child I would make up little stories in my own head, though for some reason it never clicked that I should start writing stuff down. When I was Fourteen I wrote a little play, and my sister found it and told me she wanted to know what happened in the end, though not great, I realised i must be a decent writer.
Part of the reason I started writing Fan fiction, was because I found it easy to place certain famous people in certain situations, especially people that we see in the public eye all the time. It is also great to get positive and constructive feedback on your writing, it helps you to improve as a writer, and helps you realise what you’re strengths and weakness’s are.
It is a little self indulgent as well, as i control the actions of the characters, i can do anything with them to make a good story.
3. What is your writing process? Do you have a specific place you like to write, music you listen to, etc.?
When I did my writing Degree, I was taught that the easiest way to let your creative mind flow is to completely relax and let the ideas flow. If I try to hard to think about what I want to write, I find I struggle. Usually an idea comes to me when I am half asleep, or focusing on something else. I find it extremely difficult to write unless it’s completely quiet. I usually have to wait until everyone goes to bed and I can totally immerse myself in the story world and ‘Get in the zone’. More often than not I will be up till the early hours, because that’s when ideas come into my head and write them down. I now keep a notepad by my bed so if I think of something while I am trying to sleep I can just jot it down. Otherwise by the morning I have forgotten what the specifics of the idea are.
4. How much research goes into the stories? Time spent on the internet? Personal experience?
So far, I used my personal experience. Having said that, I did a bit of research before I wrote the date rape scene in EAF, because I wanted to write it as close to reality as possible and it is a sensitive subject. In general I like to have fun in my stories, but now and again I get a bit serious. Part of yourself goes into your character even if you are unaware of it I think. With As long as you Love Me, Serena’s character has extreme OCD and anxiety; I have both of these things so I can relate to the character. Serena is just a very exaggerated part of my consciousness
5. What is the hardest/easiest part about writing?
Definitely writers block, it is horrible and I find as a rule you just have to wait for the inspiration to strike again. Also I think you have to be sure your story is believable, especially the dialogue and setting the scene, basically everything you write has to be realistic. Theres nothing I hate more than a poorly written story or dialogue. The easiest part about writing is once you get in the zone, and really let your creative mind flow, you can write for hours.
6. Out of the stories you've written which is your favourite? Favourite character? Why?
I love Even Angels Fall, because I love the dynamics of Jasmine and Roberts Friendship and her complicated past which she carries with her every day. I love Nikeeta in Tangled, simply because in a totally shallow way, I would love to be in a love triangle if it was Rob and Ed, its sort of a fan girl story at the moment, but I am working on making it more credible as a serious and empathetic love story….
7. What do you think makes a good story?
A good subject matter and empathetic main characters. Characters the readers can relate to and root for.
8. Is there any story (or book) you he wish you could have written? Why?
I wish I could have written The lovely Bones by Alice Seabold, it’s so wonderfully constructed. I love that it is written in the first person narrative, from the Point of view of a dead girl.
9. Do you have any writing tips?
Write for yourself because then you know that you are writing for your own enjoyment. Write what you know, because then the authenticity shows in your writing. If you write outside your comfort zone, get feedback on things you are not sure about. Don’t be disheartened by constructive criticism, it only makes you a stronger writer. If you get writers block ( as I do) Sounds weird, but just relax in a quiet space and clear your mind of everything, it will take sometime to master the art of opening your creative mind, but soon you will find ideas coming to you as you relax….hope that helps someone!
10. Whose your pick to be the next author interviewed? (This person will actually be it.)
Twilight_ Moon- All her stories are great and I would love to read about her inspirations.
From readers:
1. Hey, Nikki! I want to know, what's your favourite physical feature about Robert Pattinson? (Other than his jaw, lol) – Cameo
Obviously, the jaw first off! =) but other than that, I guess his hair is a trademark, but I have to say his best physical feature in my opinion is, his grey/blue eyes. I like a lot about him that isn’t physical to be honest, for one his dry Brit humour, I think the first time I saw an interview with him, I really became a fan. Of Rob, Not Edward =)
2. If you could be any character, from any of your stories for one day, who would you be? Why?... - Cameo
Oooh good one Cam!, I think, from a shallow point of view Nikeeta from Tangled, because, well, pretty self explanatory! But if I think seriously, I would like to be Jasmine from Even angels Fall, for one day, because Rob is such a gentleman with her, its really sweet, even if Jas does have issues, Rob is there for her. He is the best remedy for her bad luck in her life
3. What is the most important thing you have learned about writing that you would like to share with the other writers here? - m244robp
Put Simply-
Write about subjects you feel passionate about.
4. How would you react if you actually had a chance to meet Rob? (this is a Rob-related site, right?) - m244robp
I would TRY to be really cool about it, though I would be freaking out on the inside a bit. We build celebs up in our mind, to a god like status. At the end of the day he is just a guy, okay albeit a hot one, but I would want to just have a decent conversation and enjoy his company, I’m sure he is fed up of girls grabbing him like a piece of meat left right and centre. But make no mistake I would be texting everyone I knew!!
5. What made you like Robert? Do you write Robert different then every one else? And what is you favourite Robert story that you didn't write? - queens_of_pattinson
Honestly? The guy is hot, I’m not going to deny that at all, that’s what first made me sit up and take notice. After I saw Remember Me, I have to say, I think it was the making of him as a credible actor, not just some Fan girl Idol. After seeing Twilight I was a fan of his general hotness, but then I saw a few real life interviews with Rob and I found him to be charming and funny, with an ‘I’m going to pretend I don’t know I’m Hot’ smirk that I totally fell in lust/love with all over again.
Generally I write Rob to the best of my knowledge, trying to keep to what I think he would like in certain situations. In all honesty I don’t know if it is different to anyone else, but I guess you could say, everyone’s interpretations are unique to them as a writer….God, hope that makes sense (lol).
I think Haley may have said this before, but i really admire Livesing’s Stories, especially Life goes on, as it was so different to everything else. I hope she keeps writing it!
